This trek offers a delightful mix of lush forests, terraced farmlands, local culture, and panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and even glimpses of Everest on clear days. It’s an ideal trek for beginners or travelers short on time, but eager to experience Nepal's trekking charm.
Day 1: Kathmandu to Chisapani
The adventure begins with a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, the starting point of the trek. Set off through the lush forests of Shivapuri National Park, filled with rhododendron trees, cascading streams, and birdlife. The trail gradually ascends to Chisapani (2,165m), a small village perched on a hilltop. From Chisapani, enjoy panoramic views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges. Overnight in a cozy guesthouse, savoring the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
Day 2: Trek from Chisapani to Nagarkot
Today’s trek offers a mix of gentle uphill and downhill sections through verdant fields and terraced landscapes. The route meanders through Tamang and Newari villages, giving a glimpse into the local culture and lifestyle. After approximately 6 hours of trekking, reach the popular hill station of Nagarkot (2,175m). Known for its wide-ranging Himalayan views, Nagarkot offers a fantastic sunset over the peaks. Settle into your hotel and enjoy the serene atmosphere.
Day 3: Sunrise View at Nagarkot and Trek to Changunarayan, Return to Kathmandu
Rise early for a magical sunrise over the Himalayas, with the golden light illuminating the snow-capped peaks. After breakfast, begin your descent to the historic village of Changunarayan, home to the ancient Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trek to Changunarayan takes about 3-4 hours and offers views of the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding landscapes. From here, a private vehicle will take you back to Kathmandu, marking the end of your scenic adventure.
The best time for the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is from September to May. The post-monsoon months of September to November offer crisp skies and stunning views, while March to May brings blossoming rhododendrons and mild temperatures. Winter months (December to February) are clear but can be colder, especially in the mornings. Avoid trekking in the monsoon (June to August) due to rain and cloudy skies.
