Because of the monsoon, the recognized trekking season in Nepal is October through May. A monsoon trek is still possible and can be rewarding if you are ready to put up with a few problems. The monsoon is not a continual downpour. Most of the rain falls after sunset and it often rains hard throughout the night. This makes living in a tent fairly miserable so unless you are trekking in the Himalayan rain shadow you should plan on staying in the Trekking lodges if you undertake a monsoon trek, During the day there are often long periods without rain and sun filtering through the clouds gives a striking Gauguin lighting effect to the bright green of the rice terrace and surrounding valleys. Trails are wet and slippery, but they often dry out during the day.
There is a tremendous amount of water both in the streams and running down the trails gaint waterfalls shoot off the hilly sides. You will have to put up with muddy and wet shoes and should bring along enough socks to change them a few times a day. Leeches are problems above 1500 meters but there are numerous homegrown remedies to combat them. You probably won't see the mountains but if they do appear it will be magical with clouds surrounding peaks draped in snow.
You will have your choice of lodges but nobody bakes apple pie in the monsoon season. It will be hot in the lowlands and the humidity will keep you sweating. You will need to drink lots of water so bring a water bottle and iodine for water purification. You may have to wade some streams and a landslide or serious flood is always a possibility, These problems may force you to change your route but such problems happen during the normal trekking season as well, Flight operates to Lukla, Jomsom and other hill airstrips during the monsoon, though they are even less regular then in the autumn seasons if such a thing is possible. But sure that you have a few extra days in Nepal in case of severe flooding, landslides washed-out roads, or torrential rain.
If you get the rain shadow in places like Manang, Mustang, and Humla things are drier but there will still be clouds and drizzles during the day, and possibly rain at night.
