The Bardiya National Park is situated in the far west terai of Nepal. From the wildlife and eco-system point of view, this park is not significantly different than Chitwan but, this is least explored and not crowded, because of it's distance from Kathmandu or from Pokhara. The 10 day's world class river rafting trip ends right at the Bardiya park or one can take long drive from Kathmandu or fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj to reach in the park.
The Royal Bardia National Park was initially a Royal hunting reserve. It was in 1976 that it was gazetted as Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve with an area of only 368 sq. km in 1982, It was renamed as Royal Bardia Wildlife Reserve Which also included the Babai River Valley. It was only in 1988 that is was granted a status of National Park in order to preserve the dwindling species of rare ecosystem, including flora and fauna, particularly the tiger and its other prey species. This park is the largest and most undisturbed wilderness area in the terai providing excellent habitat for most of the endangered species of wildlife and birds.
The park now covers an area of 968 sq. km. It was only 1994 basic facilities existed for independent visitors. It has extensive and varied wildlife-all endangered rhinoceros. A haven for a wide variety of wildlife, the park was originally formed to protect the various ecosystems found in the area, and to conserve tigers and their prey. The Park has since expanded to become one of the finest in Nepal. Lush dense forests, savannah and riverine woodlands are home to an incredibly diverse range of flora and fauna. Endangered species such as Rhinoceros, Wild elephant, The Royal Bengal Tiger, Swamp deer, Gharial crocodile, Gangetic dolphin, Bengal florican and the Sarus crane are all found here. Flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, then direct transfer to the resort/hotel. After lunch our manager will brief you about the program of the following days. Visit to crocodile breeding center and tharu village & Jungle drive. You enjoy dinner, in the evening; enjoy cultural programs conducted by Tharu, community of Terai. You stay overnight at hotel.
In Bardia National Park, you enjoy a full day of Wild-Life Safari activities such as: Elephant back safari, Nature walks, Canoe trip or boat ride, Jeep drive in the Deep forest, Elephant bathing, bird watching, Tharu Village tour etc. as per time permits. Trained local naturalists and guides will guide all to you. Animals and birds to be seen are rhinoceros, crocodiles, bear, monkeys, several species of deer, pythons, peacocks, hornbills, woodpeckers (amongst more than 400 species of birds recorded in the park).
