Why Trekking in Nepal is Famous around the world ?

Table of Contents

We asked a recent client from the UK why they had chosen Nepal for their trekking holiday. They enthusiastically answered “Nepal has the highest mountains in the world. It has fantastic mountain scenery and the people are so friendly. It is exotic, cultural, accessible and peaceful”.  Nepal attracts like-minded walkers from all over the world. We think you will agree. Here are some of the things which make a trekking holiday in Nepal so amazing:

  1. Annapurna and Everest region:

Mount Everest is not only the highest mountain in the world, the Everest region offers the most wonderful and varied trekking challenges, with different levels of difficulty depending on your fitness and time available and Sherpa villages. The Annapurna region offers marvellous treks through culturally diverse villages and landscapes, taking you on a truly memorable Himalayan journey.
  2. The Highest Peaks:

For those who want to be amongst the tallest mountains in the world, Nepal is the only place to be. It has seven of the world’s highest peaks: Everest, Kanchanjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. Our popular treks give you the opportunity to get close to some of these giants: the Everest Base camp Trek, Annapurna Base Camp Trek & Manaslu Circuit Trek.
  3. Indigenous Life Style & Cultural Richness:

Nepal has not been spoilt or become too westernised. The people proudly uphold the religious and cultural diversity of this small nation. The welcoming nature of the Nepalese people can be felt as soon as you land in Kathmandu. There are over 36 types of indigenous tribes in Nepal, with the language, culture and lifestyle varying enormously from one geographic region to another. In the mountainous north close to Tibet people are mostly Buddhist, while, the lower down people are mainly Hindu.
  4. Adventure Holidays:

Nepal isn’t limited to trekking and mountaineering. Come to Nepal for rafting, wildlife safaries, hot air balloons, paragliding, bungee jumping and, of course, eating apple pie!
  5. World Heritage Sites:

Nepal is not only full of natural sites, it also has 10 UNESCO world heritage sites which reflect art, tradition and cultural charm of the various temples, monasteries, Inns. On a recent trip one of our Australian clients was so amazed by the cultural sites which she saw on a one day tour of the Kathmandu Valley that for her it rivalled the view of Machupuchare from the top of the Mardi Himal trek.
  6. Beautiful Lakes:

The best known lake is the beautiful lake at Pokhara where many trekkers go to relax after a long trek, taking out a boat or resting by the waterside with a cold beer. Nepal is known as a country of lakes which are symbols of outstanding beauty with spiritual importance.
  7. Bird Watching:

An amazing variety of birds - 856 species of birds – can be found in Nepal, and the Chitwan National Park, near the border with India is the best place to see them (as well as Rhinos, elephants and, if you are really lucky, tigers).
  8. Religious Festivals:

There are many colorful festivals in Nepal all throughout the year, especially as there are so many different ethnic tribes in Nepal. These are marvellous opportunities to see the colourfulness and friendliness of the local traditions. One special festival is the Tiji Festival in the Mustang Valley influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
  9. Trekking all Around the Year:

Due to the geography of Nepal it is possible to trek at any time of year. Spring and autumn is best for Annapurna, Langtang, Everest, Manaslu. All year round you can trek in Upper mustang, Upper Dolpo and Manang.
  10. High Altitudes Regions:

The altitude in Nepal varies from 60 metres down on the border with India to over 8,000 meters. Most of the popular trails go over passes which are above 5,000 meters.
