Types of Trekking in Nepal

There are three types of treks available in Nepal based on the type of accommodation you wish to stay in:
Lodge or Tea House Treks
Most people opt for this type of trek as it is the most hassle-free and sociable. Accommodation is in tea houses, lodges or small hotels in the villages and they are great places for meeting other trekkers at the end of the day. They vary from hotel style lodges to more basic lodges. As a minimum, they may have single or double/triple rooms or dormitories and always have a communal dining area often with a central stove. They usually have communal bathrooms, many with solar-heated showers. There are often shops and restaurants along the route. You can do this type of trek independently or you can hire a guide and porters to guide you along the trail and carry your heavy backpack. You would then only need to carry a daypack. Another benefit of having a guide and porters is that you get to know them over the course of the trek, whereas you will only meet other local Nepali people for one evening/morning as you continue on your trek.
Camping Treks
This adventurous style of trekking can take place almost anywhere in the country. The treks are fully organized and supported by a team of a guide, cooks, and porters. All the necessary gear: food, fuel, camping equipment, and your personal goods are carried by porters. The cook prepares all the meals during the trek. You only need to carry a small day pack. At night, tents for dining and sleeping are provided and set up. All land transportation, local permits, taxes, porter insurance, port dues, and entrance fees to National Parks are arranged.
Home Stay Treks
Staying as a guest in family houses along your trek is a wonderful way to experience and enjoy traditional Nepalese culture and hospitality. You will experience local cuisine, and you may see ethnic rituals and dances. The Nepalese people are incredibly kind and welcoming and this will give a wonderful extra dimension to your trek. There are different ethnic groups who live in different villages inside the country such as Sherpa, Tamang, Magars, Gurung, Rai/Limbu, Newars, Chhetris, Tharus and Brahmin.
